Anxiety

Therapy for Adult Individuals in Pasadena and online

Do you find yourself weighed down with worry? Maybe it’s the fear of being judged, or the dread of certain tasks. Or perhaps it’s a general worry about an uncertain future. In response, you might find yourself making decisions based on the wants of others. Or maybe you procrastinate, finding anything else to distract, desperate to avoid the feelings of discomfort that come with facing an uncomfortable situation.  Or perhaps you find yourself overanalyzing, or rehashing distressing experiences, hoping it will lead to insight or action. However, these strategies often provide only temporary relief, and can actually increase feelings of overwhelm and anxiety in the long run.

It is normal to feel anxious from time to time.  When we feel pressured, threatened or are facing a challenge (like a job interview or taking an exam), our fight flight or fight system is activated.  In lower to moderate doses, our anxiety can be helpful as it can help motivate us into action, keep us focused and problem solve. However, when our anxiety persists for longer periods of time, it can negatively impact our relationships, our jobs, and even our self esteem. While feelings of overwhelm is a common experience, it doesn't have to dictate your life. If you find yourself weighed down by chronic feelings of fear, dread or a general sense of unease, it may be time to reach out for support.

I'm here to help you in learning how to effectively manage stress and navigate challenging emotions, in a sustainable way. Together, we will work toward a deeper understanding of yourself and your experiences, turn towards what is needing attention, identify limits, practice boundary setting, and develop coping skills that work for you. With dedication and a commitment to your well being, it is possible to live a life no longer guided by worry, but rather, a life that reflects your truest desires and aspirations as you become more rooted in yourself.
